Our Vision
This is the nitty gritty of who we are and what we want to create! If you’re trying to really get to know us, or maybe you’re wondering if you would be a good fit for our community, you’re in the right place! If you’re looking for a more manageable summary, try reading our About Us page.
We feel drawn to the forest and revere nature; we feel most at home under and in the trees and we know we’re not alone. We want to wake up everyday and hear, smell, feel nature around us.
We want to purchase a piece of land in Scotland as a community for all of us to regenerate, live on, and fall in love with. We want to find a woodland location that has, or is near to a body of water or river, and preferably is also near mountains. We also do not want to live in isolation, and would prefer to be within a reasonable commute to a population centre so that our members do not feel cut off from their lives outside the village. We intend on building unique homes that reflect the beauty of our individuals, for example hobbit homes, earthships, and tree houses.
We want to build a community in the truest sense of the word. We want a community where people depend on each other to build a beautiful life that they can share in connection with each other. We intend on building many communal spaces, including a large gathering hall in which to offer the opportunity for shared daily meals and seasonal celebrations.
We intend to foster intergenerational support, with members of the community participating in education and care of children, as well as caring for and aiding the elderly. We want to watch a new generation blossom as we grow older. We want to see children surrounded by community and nature and give them the opportunity to learn whatever it is they want to learn.
We intend to run our community using a consensus-based decision model. We believe in individual autonomy and responsibility. We do however expect that as in all communities, some regulation will be agreed upon, especially in areas that affect others’ lives.
We believe community can be a holistic source of health and well-being and intend on organising a system that includes compassionate conflict management and mutual support.
Our community is not built around any specific spirituality or tradition. We do however want to build a warm, welcoming community that respects all religions, spiritualities, diets, sexual orientations, gender identities, ethnicities, and cultures as part of our family. We will not tolerate discrimination. We intend to have an open interview process for accepting new members.
We strongly desire to live sustainably and in a way that treats nature as sacred. We want to give back to the earth that created us and directly have a hand in the cycle that continues to give us life. This includes producing a large percentage of our own food in a way that is regenerative for our local ecosystem rather than destructive; attempting to minimize each community member’s carbon footprint; dedicating some spaces for rewilding; eco-conscious waste management; preferring building methods that have a low ecological impact; and reducing our dependence on external resources. As a larger community we would like to set an example with these practices, but do not wish to police individuals’ personal lifestyle choices.
We’re a mixed group of individuals, encompassing some who plan to work off site as well as some members who wish to make a living off of their contribution to, or promotion of this community and its values. We will build a separate co-operative enterprise that has the capacity to employ members of the housing co-op.
We understand that members may also like to run personal businesses from the village. Potential barriers we foresee include space availability as well as issues around daily client entry into our living space. We can decide on a case by case basis which business ventures are within the capacity of our space to support by way of consensus.
We believe in equitable community land ownership. Our co-op will function under a fully mutual model, meaning that the co-op will own the property and lease/rent the property to the members. If the member built a structure on the land and decided to leave the Co-op that structure would have been paid for by the co-op using land development funds, and therefore would still be owned by the co-op. Any financial investment made by the member will have been through loan stock and therefore would be repaid per the terms of the loan.
As a community, we would like to stand as an example showing that our lifestyle is possible. We would like for the community to be an educational resource to those outside of it. It is important to us to offer workshops to provide education to the public on various topics, skills, and interests. First and foremost however, our purpose is to be a place for the members of our community to build a peaceful life in. We wish this to be a place that community members can freely bring family and visitors into. We also wish to have accommodation available for guests to stay. In these places when we are bringing multiple people into the community whom we may not be familiar with, we intend for there to be oversight to keep our community feeling safe and comfortable for its members.
We want to build a beautiful, sacred place to live in and want to be able to take pride in our living space. We do not intend on being controlling of personal expression or management of one’s home, but do plan on collectively agreeing upon a standard of cleanliness and tidiness in the community.
We intend to have a variety of animals present in our village, ranging from personal pets to farm animals. We believe in loving care of animals and their inclusion in our daily lives, but recognise there will need to be some degree of management of where these animals are allowed and how to clean up after them.
We have many members who are passionate about human movement and would like to build areas dedicated to the practice of movement arts including a parkour space.
We are attempting to build a community with the future in mind and are searching for solutions to challenges posed by environmentally destructive and socially isolating trends in culture. We want to rediscover what it truly means to be human and to live in a way that looks to ancestral or tribal ways of living for inspiration. We want to integrate innovative solutions to live with minimal environmental impact within a supportive and non-hierarchical social structure.
We look forward to connecting with you in nature!
